Control Templates - Mother Valkyrie

Mother Valkyrie

She is Justice, Boundary, and Righteous Wrath. She is the burnished one, the brazen one, She-of-Flaming-Wings. She is the Door and its Guardian. Now she has come for you, wicked thing!

One of the Worldly Powers. She feeds on the spilled blood of the unrepentant vile. Her gifts are strength. Cops hate her chosen.

About Control

Control (look we are just cribbing Influence from Invisible Hands) represents how much stake a Power has in your soul. It's measured in %, from 0 to 100. You might have multiple Powers with Control over you, to some degree, or just one, or none at all. At certain thresholds of Control, powers grant Gifts (these are not always good things).

Every Power has its own unique ways to gain Control over you. Sometimes, it will happen without you wanting it. These are Powers, not your friends or helpers or guardians. You're right, it's not fair.

Always included in the ways a Power gains Control is by giving it yourself. You can do this by performing the rituals of dedication you find graffitied in forgotten places, usually paired with an appropriate sacrifice. This is worth 3d10% Control.

Mother Valkyrie's Control

She gets Control (1d10%) when you beat up and persecute the wicked, precisely because they are wicked, not because you want their stuff, not because you have a grudge...

Gifts

At every 20%, gain [Tryhard] again
At the first 20%, also gain [Violent Tendencies]
At 50%, gain [Immovable Object]
At 60%, gain [Manhunt]
At 75%, gain [What The Eyes See]
At 100%, gain [Judgement]

Tryhard [20/40/60/80]

Add +1 to your attack rolls. Once you have multiple copies of Tryhard, you can split the bonus between multiple attacks to attack multiple times per round.

Also, add your Tryhard bonus to rolls for parkouring across rain-slicked rooftops, menacing thugs as a silhouette in the shadows, and pulling a vanishing act.

Violent Tendencies [20]

You can now rest by patrolling the streets all night, or by watching violent films while doing bag training. You can no longer rest by sleeping, though your body still needs it. Time to get a home gym.

Immovable Object [50]

You're hard to put down. When you recover from getting knocked to 0 Health, you get +1 max Health, permanently. Also, you get a +4 bonus to resist the effects of magic. You can't choose to fail saves against spells any more.

Manhunt [60]

A special division of law enforcement that deals with sickos like you finally forms a task force to deal with you, with the express purpose of running you down in the street and killing you like a dog. If you could find their secret headquarters and kill all the leadership, they might disband for a few weeks before they reform stronger and more pissed off...

What The Eyes See [75]

At any time, you can choose to have a terrible migraine and take 1 damage. At the beginning of the migraine, you see a brief ghastly vision of the nearest wicked deed going unpunished - or, if you are already chasing down someone wicked, you see where they ran off to.

Judgement [100]

This is a crucible, not an ability. Whatever your fate, you’re not coming back.

Mother Valkyrie scours your soul for wickedness. If she finds even a shred of the vile, you are obliterated. If she judges you worthy, you ascend as one of her angels.

Notes

I mocked up a list of about a dozen GLOG classes for they do not exist, which is an attempt to do something 'freak modern' (thanks Phlox) with all my old Los Tronos notes. Eventually, I felt like the idea didn't work with the model of a trad class. So now you have a sort of grab bag or progression of templates, based on occult entities fucking you over slowly. I guess these are delta templates, maybe?

I am working on a set like this for each of the Worldly Powers. Some I think will follow a clear A-to-B like this one for Mother Valkyrie, while others might present more of a grab bag to pick from, or a more randomized experience.

This also leaves a lot of room in the setting/my notes/my brain for small-fry Powers to be featured with their own unique abilities etc. That's cool.
